Snail Mail Recipe Exchange
One of my uber cute friends recently moved to another state. SAD! But that means that I have a snail mail pen pal. Awesome! She had an idea today, to send each other a new recipe when we write. Not just any recipe, but one we have tried, and love. This got me thinking... maybe there are other people who would love to get some happy mail in the form of new recipes each month. So, I want to start a small snail mail recipe exchange.
Here's how it will work... starting in April, each person in the group will write/print a recipe that they really like on a 4x6 card {for consistency purposes} and send it via snail mail to all of the others in the group. Just one recipe a month. This means everyone gets new recipes to try and hopefully make some new friends in the process! Sound like fun? If you are interested, would be willing to commit for at least 6 months then email me {jeanag2003 at hotmail dot com} and include your name and mailing address. In the next couple of weeks I will compile the list and make sure it gets out to everyone so we can be ready to mail out the first recipe next month. I am excited... dorky excited even :) I've had some feedback saying that it would be quicker to do via email... I thought about that for a second, but I think the snail mail part is half the fun. If snail mail isn't your thing I totally get that and won't be offended if you don't want to play. But I'm personally looking forward to getting something in my mail box other than junk and bills. Yay!

my one little word for 2013
holy wow the holidays have just flown by. christmas was awesome, spent with just mom and i. she came up to visit.... wait, let me back up. plans for christmas this year were to have everyone come and stay in my new house {that i was supposed to move into in october}. it still isn't finished, so plans changed. i feel like a gypsy, staying where i can {and so so so thankful for the friends who've offered to give me a roof over my head until this big fat mess of a building a house process is over!} anyway, christmas morning mom and i had breakfast at ihop on the way up to her hotel in slc. eating out on christmas was a new adventure. so was spending it with just mom and i. it was quiet, low key. but i loved it. i got to reflect on all of the blessings i already have in my life rather than things i want. i really am so incredibly blessed.
since christmas was over in a flash, and work has me thinking of new years... i wanted to pick a word to focus on over the next year.
wouldn't you know, the silhouette blog had the perfect picture... ;) i made it to hang in my office at work as a reminder. my word for the year is story.
why i chose the word i did... some things to think about, and good reminders...
everyone has a story. all of them are worth telling.
there are two sides to every story, don't pass judgement on one side alone.
we don't know everyone's story, be less quick to judge
my story is worth telling - write more, scrapbook more, LIVE more
live life in a way you would want to have your story told
you write your own story by the choices that you make. even the little ones, make them count.
not all stories are fairytales, and that's ok
because it is my story... i'm actually going to have 2 little words for 2013. the second one is 'change'. lots of them coming my way. here's to embracing them... and making some of them stick!
thanks for stopping by!

My very own Christmas Carol
not exactly like the charles dickens' version mind you, but over the last 12 hours or so I've had 3 interesting experiences. Let me explain...
Aha moment # 1 Life isn't just about me. *wow, that's not new!*
Before bed last night I had a conversation on Facebook with someone that was in my ward growing up. It brought back memories of a great time in my life. As a child, everything was right with the world, or so it seemed. I had friends, and was surrounded by people who inspired me. People I wanted to be more like as I grew older. We talked about my dad and I had my first of 3 "aha!" moments. One of my favorite things about my dad was that he was friends with everyone. Whether they wanted to be or not, it just was. He'd walk out of the grocery store with 8 new friends, every time. Most of the time I would be embarrassed because he would talk and joke with complete strangers. I was more worried about what other people were thinking of us. He was more concerned with how he made other people feel, than worried what other people would think of him. Dad has been gone for close to 12 years now, so I only have memories of these experiences, but I was reminded in this conversation with an old friend that I may have gotten caught up in my own existence over the years and failed to take after one of my favorite traits in my dad. Looking back I would blame it on being shy, but really that's not an excuse. I need to look more outside myself. I will.
Aha moment #2 Happiness comes from within
This morning on my way to work I felt the need to have some orange juice and pebble ice from Sonic. Reason this is odd, I can't drink orange juice, I'm allergic. I'm so glad I stopped at that little rode side drive in though. A young man with a spanish accent took my order, gave me my total and said he'd have it out to me the second it was made. I'd never heard it put quite like that. Then, when I got to the front of the line, he came out, drink in hand and a big welcoming smile on his face. He handed me my drink, asked if there was anything else he could get for me and hurried away with my payment. When he returned he told me to have a great day and gave me a double thumbs up. In the little time I interacted with him there was something about this kid that had me sitting there in awe. He wasn't performing heart surgery or saving the world, he brought me a drink at Sonic, but my heck he was HAPPY. Not the "happy because I have to be" kind, but genuinely happy. It was awesome! No matter the circumstances... happiness is possible.
Aha moment #3 Friends are life changing
After my sonic moment I got back on the road and just 2 minutes later came aha moment #3. I saw a young girl walking along the side of the road, didn't think anything of it until I saw another girl maybe 20 fee away from her walking out of her neighborhood with her head down. Then, she looked up, saw the first girl walking towards her and got a big smile on her face. It was obvious they were friends and they both walked a little quicker until they met up on the sidewalk. Friends are important. People, myself included, often take them for granted. I've been on both sides. Everyone needs them, they are life changing. I'm going to be a better one, and make more of them.
Every day is one of miracles... look for them. Seeing them and being one of them to someone else is what makes the world a better place. :)

a falling star & wishes
the other night i was driving home from school. it was dark, i had a lot on my mind. that's when it happened. a falling star.
anyhow... it was gorgeous and for a second it was like time stood still. i thought of all of the things i could wish for, but didn't mention any of them aloud for fear if i did i'd jinx it all somehow. {that doesn't happen by the way, the whole jinxing yourself thing} see, i always wish for the same thing when a chance for wishing happens, seeing 11:11 on the clock, throwing a penny into a wishing well, seeing the first star of the night etc. the other night after i almost wished that same wish on the falling star, i wondered for a while. if after almost 20 years of wishing the same wish, that maybe i needed to change my wish? maybe i'm wishing for the wrong thing? you can probably guess what my usual wish is... but it might be time i find a new one. i hope the falling star doesn't have a wishing expiration. this one might take me a while. :)
to new wishes...
**update...
that didn't take as long as i thought. after my original post, i was browsing pinterest, part of my usual pre bedtime routine and came across this quote...
{not my photo, i was driving and figured it would be safer for me to keep doing that then trying to capture the star. you are welcome fellow drivers, and mom. this photo was found here}
to new wishes...

how's that for an answer to my question for a new wish. maybe it isn't a wish i need at all. now when a chance for wishing happens, instead of a wish i'll remember this and take a second to be grateful.
to gratitude...
